Unhappiness: Measure of Stress

True_Kriss SzkurlatowskiNow that the holidays are over, we can all take a deep breath and relax. Or not. Let’s face it. Some people just don’t know how to relax. They live in a constant state of anxiety and negative energy. Do you know someone like that? Oh, dear. Maybe that person is you.

There’s someone in my family, name concealed to protect me from wrath, who lives in a constant state of stress and anxiety. Even this person’s muscles are in knots from the physical tension in the body. This is a person who would benefit from a stress reduction workshop.

In the past, I’ve suggested things in an effort to help, but every suggestion I make is countered with an excuse of why it won’t work.

Keep a journal. Stretching exercise. Read something inspiring and optimistic. Work on a hobby or some kind of craft work. Visit more with friends.

Each suggestion is countered by: “I don’t have the time.”

Sometimes, people just need to take a good look at their lives and realize they need to simplify. That’s the beginning of successful stress management.

Takeaway Truth

In the coming year, pay close attention to what makes you happy and what makes you unhappy. See if you can find ways to increase the first and decrease the latter.
