Downturn Doesn’t Mean Down & Out

Posted by Joan Reeves on Jan 2, 2009 in Consumer Smarts, Life Changes, My Literary License |

Everywhere I go, I hear people discussing the economy, more specifically, the downturn in the economy. Since I just finished helping my mom write her memoir about being a child during the Great Depression, I realize that even then, people prospered. Businesses were started, and businesses grew. Maybe those who proclaim doom and gloom need to learn some lessons from history. A downturn doesn’t necessarily mean you’re down for the count.

I, as a self-employed author, am a small business. I know that I have strengths and weaknesses so I strive to improve what’s weak and capitalize on my strengths. Often, that approach can be a major factor in what makes one business successful while another fails.

Get Help When You Need Help

Fortunately, my small business isn’t dependent on outside financing. I’m an established writer with a solid cash flow. Many though need business loans to keep afloat -  especially if they’re new and trying to build a customer base. Or maybe they’re waiting for their Accounts Receivables but must pay their overhead in the meantime.

Sometimes, a business starts without being able to accept credit cards. Just adding this to their business model, since so many people use credit cards, might be a make-or-break difference in their operation.

Reputable Resources

Fortunately, if you visit the website link shown, you’ll find reputable resources available to help the business owner. The website badges for Dun & Bradstreet as well as the Better Business Bureau assure you that the site is credible. You’ll even see there’s a 800 number where you can talk to a real human as well as a quick inquiry form. Unlike traditional bank loans, they have less stringent requirements, faster approval, and no closing cost or fees. They take a long-term approach to your small business funding so they can build a long-term relationship with you.

Takeaway Truth

Even during challenging economic times, if you have vision and a good plan, you can start a business or grow the one you’ve got.
