Joan Reeves Is Here – I Think
In case you don’t know me, allow me to introduce myself. I’m Joan Reeves, multi-published in book-length fiction and long-time successful freelance writer. You can check me out at Joan Reeves.com or my other blog Sling Words. You can even cruise to my cyber shop The WriteWay where I design and sell gifts and promotional items for writers.
For some time now, I’ve been thinking about starting my own blog domain, separate from Sling Words, my popular blog hosted by Blogspot.
Why, you may ask did I want to do this? I must be a masochist at heart.
Masochism Indeed
The reason I say this is because once I’d registered the domain Joan Slings Words, I had to start the process of setting up the blog. I had been convinced by the massive amount of editorial content on SiteGround’s site that this would be easy.
I watched the video tutorials. I read the printed instructions. I’m an intelligent woman. Conclusion? This would be easy.
Aggghhhhhh! I ran screaming into the night after a fruitless, futile evening of trying to get the thing set up the way I wanted. You see, I had no problem following the instructions on how to get the site activated, a basic WordPress theme installed, and I could see it etc. No problem.
The problem was trying to get the default WordPress theme replaced with one more to my choosing. Something indicating writing which this one now does.
New Determination
This morning I arose with the determination to either get this done or cancel the account, even if it meant losing the year’s payment already charged to my credit card. So I read through everything again, and voila! There, in tiny print in one section of help that I finally found about FTP instructions was the message that Internet Explorer had to be used.
What?!!! Why didn’t they put that in bold at the beginning of all the instructions? Of course, I use Mozilla Firefox which I feel is much superior to IE. (I probably shouldn’t put this in print. The MS hit squad may target me.)
Long Story, Shortened
Anyway, to make a long story short – too late, yeah, I know – I finally, simply got the deed done.
Sheesh! I hope the worst is behind me. Surely, learning the WordPress procedures can’t be half as bad. By the way, I’m back on Mozilla Firefox. Once you get on IE and get the theme selected in WP-content/themes then it’s a simple matter of going to the site’s Dashboard and selecting Design.
Now, as to why I wanted this challenge in my life. Just kidding. I want to explore blog expansion. I’ll be writing some of the same topics as I write on Sling Words.
